Missing some key folks who made this successful, but happy one year to one of the greatest things I've been passionate about. Happy 1 year to the Twilio's Diversity & Inclusion program, "Skittles"! What started out as an email thread quickly grew into Twilio's first employee-led Employee Resource Group. Over the year we've accomplished more than we ever though capable and we are so humbled by the groups that have joined us and the company that values the work being done. It was a collaborative effort and nothing short of humbling in having everyone join in and put effort in changing the faces in tech. 

Over the past year we have made a lot of changes and dedicated ourselves to improving the technical field, not only at Twilio but overall. Here's a peak at what we've accomplished so far.

  • Audited Twilio job posting language for potentially biased language and made 100+ suggestions (which were mentioned in this TechCrunch article)
  • Hosted 2 workshops, one of which had a 75% companywide attendance rate (Male Allies Workshop and Unconscious Bias Workshop)
  • Started Skittles 101 new hire training 
  • Wrote and published Twilio’s first Code of Conduct, attendee harassment guideline, and staff escalation plan for Signal and had active Safety Advocates making sure attendees were safe at all times
  • Represented Twilio at 20+ Diversity & Inclusion networking events around the Bay Area
  • Spoke at 11 conferences focusing on Diversity & Inclusion
  • Became a sponsor for Maven, a queer youth tech bootcamp based in Oakland 
  • Added women's t-shirts to our swag locker for internal and external events, including Signal
  • Hosted first internal speed networking brunch for Twilio women (40 attendees)
  • Hosted the second Twilio Girl Geek Dinner in December 2014 (100 attendees)
  • Added gender neutral toilets to the London office
  • Sponsored and attended two London Girl Geek Meetups
  • Sponsored and attended a Berlin Geekettes event
  • Represented Twilio at London Pride as part of a group of tech companies
